The "Tech titans" of our time are preparing to deploy their next move to rule your living room TV entertainment center. The current heavyweight is Netflix, which is currently the biggest shareholder in the USA. Netflix is about to get some serious competition from Apple, Google, and Amazon. But, the company that is worried the most is Comcast which is trying to protect it's massive content library from the listed companies aforementioned.
Netflix is the current winner so far owning $6.25 billions in market capitalaization over any other on-demand streaming media company. According to Reuters, Netflix is in talks with the biggest cable provider in the US. It seems like Netflix is preparing to defend itself from HBO Go. If Netflix does partner up with cable providers around the US, Cable providers would then would be able to offer Netflix as a on-demand pakage option. Reed Hasting said:
"The competition we fear the most is HBO GO," Hasting said in the USB media conference."They aren't competing directly with us now, but they can. HBO is becoming much more HBO-like." But,Netflix is already expearincing some setbacks with Starz (contract expired after 4 years) But after some intense negotiation, Starz decided to drop Netflix. Starz was asking for too much money and as you probably observed from this: The Netflix "buying spree" has slowed down. This can be a major problem for Netflix. Companies like Apple which has a 97.6 billion in total revenue to play around with can inflict lots of damage to not only Netflix, but also Google, Amazon, and Microsoft. Comcast counter attacked by introducing a new online service called "StreamPix". Comcast will provide it's 20 million plus subcribers with StreamPix for free and even for non-Comcast subscribers can have access to StreamPix services for just $4.99 per month. Google already have their feet wet with the introduction of Google TV, which was announced back in 2010. And not to mention that Logitech and Sony will become partners with Google to provide the hardware. After a slow start, Logitech decided to drop Google TV. Not neccessarily a good start, but we'll see what Google has in store for their next Google TV version. Amazon made their moves by adding value to Amazon Prime member subcriptions. Amazon prime members are now able to access new content for only $79. This includes unlimited movies and 2 day shipping for free on most items on the Amazon online store. Apple over the years understood that the problem was not technology, but the cable carriers restricting their content and asking for hundreds of millions of dollars; making it hard for up and coming companies like Netflix to compete. What makes Apple different from the current competition is that they have full control of their ecosystem. Companies like Google and Microsoft have finally caught on to this and beginning to gain control of their ecosystem as well.Microsoft has a good chance only if they are able to negotiate with content owners to sign-up with them, under circumstances like being able to play around with the new release of Windows 8. Consumers will preview how Microsoft is making their new OS look a lot like their mobile counter-part. Microsoft does have a fighting chance if they can gain leverage with the widely popular innovation, "the Kinect' which provides a different approach, enabling people to interact with their digital media.

From white dwarf to death star: Apple has become something magical; those are the exact words Steve Jobs would use to describe anything apple has created over the past decade. A few days ago I was talking to my uncle about how Apple paved the way to a better mobile experience; even to a cult that hates everything about the iPhone (the rise of android fan boys). It all started back in 2007, when the very first iPhone was released. Back when I had my precious Sprint Palm treo [a great smart phone] when the first iPhone was released the whole smart phone market was about to do a 360. Apple raised the bar and set the standards on how a smart phone should be. Now, [three years later] we have 4 different generations: iPhone, iPhone 3g, iPhone 3gs and the highly anticipated iPhone 4. Which was able to sell 3 million in it’s first 3 weeks of release. Apple’s most successful release to date. Apple has sold an estimated total of 59,639,.000 combined iPhone worldwide; starting from day one.
But,
What sold me was the whole browser experience. Being able to navigate the Internet 90% close to how you would use the Internet on a desktop or laptop PC. Forward to October 22, 2008 (The release of the HTC Dream aka the G1) and now we have the Google Android operating system standing in the right corner. Anyone into the whole Apple vs. Google ongoing mobile war would understand that eventually the android would become the number one selling operating OS in the mobile market. (Google CEO Eric Schmidt said they are now selling 200,000 Android devices a day) Which is why they have now outsold the Apple iPhone. But, like Sun Tzu (Art of War) would say: “In war, numbers alone confer no advantage” the same applies to the iPhone. But we’lll see what is going to happen in January when the very first iPhone sell outside AT&T. So both Google and Apple are playing a delicate strategy game here!
The human race has come a long way since our early ancestors first discovered how to create fire. Humans love to invent and explore their imaginations. It's that inherent human characteristic that drives humans to create new tools to improve our quality of life, and reduce the hassle of mundane tasks.
The C.E.R.N project paved the way for what we now commonly refer to as the “Internet”. The creation of the Internet fueled our curiosity even more, and it drove us to keep exploring ourselves, and the world around us. How did human beings come into existence? And what is our purpose here on Earth? The Internet made it possible for humans to share their thoughts, stories, hobbies, and personal beliefs on a global scale. As the Internet continues to evolve, so do the people that use it. As a society, we are slowly opening ourselves up to the idea of sharing more of our everyday lives with complete strangers. The power of the Internet makes it possible for others to connect with us as well. Online tools, such as websites like Facebook and Twitter, give us the resources necessary to share our personal moments and media with others. As we continue to improve the Internet, the platforms that govern the Internet space must also strive to keep up with the ever-changing technologies. Companies, like Comcast, are known as an ISP, (Internet Service Provider) and ISP's exist all over the world to help maintain the well-being of your Internet service. ISP's are critical to allow humans to make new discoveries and push innovation. We cannot afford to work alone. We must understand that in order to accomplish a very complex task, we must work together as a team. We are going to face extremely hard challenges in the future that will require support from Internet users all over the world. For example, if we wanted to coordinate a migration of the human species from earth to another other galaxy, we could not do it without the help of the Internet. This type of technology will be what the next chapter in our lives, as a human race, will be founded upon. But there are always people are resistant to change, and they tend to have a difficult time seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Our “Millennial Generation” must be agents of innovation, and pass on our knowledge to the next generation. (also known as the “I” generation.) Apple, Inc. is trying to create a new device in the mobile market with their newly announced “iPad”. Apple has already invented a phone that is smart enough to tell others our location, where we going, and what we are going to eat for lunch. But where does the iPad fit into our technologically complicated lives? I believe the iPad will be a great tool for the business market. Everyone from warehouse workers and doctors to astronauts or anyone that requires their data to be mobile. As we keep evolving the mobile tools that carry our crucial information, we will continue to look ahead to the next great tool that pushes us to re-think how efficiently we can perform our daily tasks.Foursquare is a new online mobile application that allows you to check in wherever you are. For example, if you're going to a bar or restaurant, you can check in using Foursquare and the only people that will be able to view this information are the people that follow you, which are your friends and family. Once you check in, those people can view where you're at. And if they are close by they can join you for a nice dinner or whatever you're doing at that specific moment. All that information will be recorded and can be viewed in the future if allowed by you. With Facebook, Foursquare, or twitter we are allowed to share and record our everyday activities, i.e: favorite places to go on Fridays, most watched movies, etc. These social tools enable us to share our common interests and habits. What this means is as long as the internet is here to stay, anyone you allow will be able to tap into all this information, including our love ones. Imagine our kids being able to search for what countries we have traveled to and people we've met. Just think of the doors of possibilities that would open. Imagine your kids saying what daddy or mommy did when they were in their twenties; let's check Facebook timeline, all that information would be stored in one, or multiple online platforms. Our kids would be able to understand us better, they would know what we loved doing and the people that we were able to influence or help while we were alive. Think of how much happiness that would bring to our future children and grandchildren. The possibilities of the things we can do online are endless. But there are also problems that arise once new technology comes into existence. Entrepreneurs understand that when they embark on new ideas most of them are going to be failures. They will encounter many hardships on their journey, those that don't move swiftly and fast enough will die, but those that do will be the ones to perfect the idea. Entrepreneurs will come up with better filter of privacy issues; we will come up with better solutions to privacy control for the end user (You). To better control the privacy of your life stream. But in the end, you have all the control over who can have access to your data, or life stream. Make the right decisions. Entrepreneurs will keep pushing new innovative technology forward, and we will learn from the mistakes we encounter. We must welcome these changes to our life for the future and benefit from our new ideas.
If you know anyone that has a dream, support them in anyway possible, regardless of their situation. We all must do our duties to support our followers and those that look up to us as role models. We must push in any way possible and kick the status quo away. We must have more leaders that are willing to show the way to those who are in need. We must simply show them the light. We must support their burning passion. We must be an agent of hope and not the fire extinguisher. We all have the greatest tool at our dispose wish is “choice”.
I decided I was going to start my first business and pursuit entrepreneurship, I knew I needed to change my habits. See, when you want to become a entrepreneur you have to understand that you must give up most of the bad habits you had back when you had all that extra free time after work. For example; watching movies, playing video games, going out to party, etc. I'm not saying you have to give them all up, but at least choose one and make time for it. Trust me, you're going to need it because entrepreneurship is a serious career decision. You're going to experience lots of stress and anxiety that are solely from frustration. This single hobby can become a comfort, and hopefully release some stress. You must condition yourself and change your old way of thinking. Dreams take a plethora of discipline to accomplish. There are going to be times when you must do something that you don't want to. That's when discipline comes in to play. Discipline teaches you to do something you don't want to do, but you must do, because if you don't, the outcome could damage your business or relationships. I hope this helps in someway. Remember to have fun on your journey, life is to short to be wasted on petty things. To start you off, here is a simple list of habits to help you on your journey:Start reading books, but not just any book, books that will help you develop as a entrepreneur. Here is a list of five books that I suggest you read to help you achieve your goals. 1.The E myth Revisited "Michael E. Gerber" 2. How to Win Friends & influence People by "Dale Carnegie" 3. Never Eat Aloneby "Keith Ferrazzi" 4. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by "Stephen R. Covey" 5. Founders at Work "Jessica Livingston" After reading all these books start taking action everyday. Go out and meet other entrepreneurs in your local community, use tools like: Twitter, Facebook, and Linkedin to connect with your potential customers. Learn from other people's mistakes and keep a journal close by where you can write down everything you've learned. Don't be afraid to write down your own mistakes either, because it's those little mistakes that will help you progress in the future of your entrepreneurship.
